Summer is just around the corner. If you’re going to brighten up your wardrobe, why not do the same for your home. Let’s start with the main living space. We all spend countless hours watching television, reading, and just hanging out with loved ones in the living room/ family room. Refreshing these rooms to reflect the season can help to improve your mood. If you’re feeling full of life when your outside, but grumpy and sad at home; a change in décor could help.
A summer spruce doesn’t have to break the budget. My living dining room summer spruce cost a total of $95.97. I have a formal living dining room combo. I began the spruce by sprucing up both rooms with a ceiling to floor cleaning. I then chose a beautiful pastel floral table cloth as my inspiration piece. An inspiration piece is the central item that the other décor items are chosen to complement and accent. My walls are a light neutral and furniture a dark neutral, so I use décor to bring color into the space. The colors and pattern in the table cloth were used to pick out the curtains, pillows, and accents.
A summer spruce is also a great opportunity to get rid of any items that are not functioning well in the space or don’t add to the atmosphere. Try relocating the desk in your family room that is not being used but has become a catch all for random items. Just seeing a desk covered in mail, clothing, and dirty dishes can damper your mood. It’s difficult to enjoy a movie when you constantly have a to-do list staring back at you. Moving the desk to another location like the upstairs foyer will change it's usefulness.
Most of all have fun while sprucing. It doesn’t all have to be done in a weekend. Take the first weekend to chose an inspiration piece. It could be a painting you have been eyeing or a colorful antique hat box given to you by your grandmother. Like shopping decorating shouldn’t be stressful. It’s your space; trust what you like.
